What does a protective order mean?
A protective order covers several different areas. It means that the person who is served with the order can’t come near your dwelling or employment. If a minor is one of the protected parties, the person who was served with the order can’t have contact with the minor or go to his or her school. It can also suspend a firearm license.

There are criminal penalties that a person who violates the order will face. Fines and jail time are possible. The exact sentence is up to a judge but if an act of family violence occurs during the violation, there is a potential of a minimum of two years in jail.
